Who should take the exam? Students who place into the second year or beyond and do not intend to take that course or any other first-year sequence and who do not fulfill the Language Competency Requirement by any of the means listed above may take the Competency Exam in order to satisfy the requirement. Students MUST have officially placed into the 2nd year or higher on a UChicago placement exam in order to be eligible to sit for the Competency Exam.

The written portion of the College Language Competency Assessment is administered on Tuesday & Wednesday of the 3rd week of Winter quarter. The location of the exam will be communicated to the examinees via email a week prior to the test. After passing the written portion, students will be contacted to schedule oral exams.
