Frequently Asked Questions

How long does this Initiative last?

We have funding for three years.

Can I attend all three assessment workshops?

You may attend more than one workshop, however, if the workshops fill and we have a waiting list, we may ask you to adjust your participation, depending on your own priorities for exam and course design. Participants will receive grant for each workshop they participate in.

Can I attend a workshop a second time?

You cannot receive a stipend for attending a workshop that you have already attended. If you would like to attend a workshop for a second time to prepare for test development, please talk to Shinhye Lee, LPII Coordinator.

Can I attend a workshop even if I likely won’t be (re)designing an exam?

Absolutely! Participants will receive grant for each workshop they participate in.

Will the workshops be offered again?

No, these workshops are only offered once a year.

Are the course development grants for summer courses?

Our “Summer Course Grants” are NOT for summer courses, rather grants for support of course design done in the summer months.

Can I use this grant for “LXC” courses?

At this time we are not including courses with an LxC component in the initiative.  We expect course design proposals for language courses to exceed demand, especially in the first two years of the project.  If we can include LxC courses, we will let everyone know.

What about language courses taught in or for other Divisions?

Courses taught in or for other Divisions are eligible, as long as they are language courses.

Can part-time lecturers take part in this initiative?

Full-time lecturers and lecturers who have an L2 appointment are eligible for the LPII.

Who owns the assessments and materials created in this grant?

All materials produced under the Language Pedagogy Innovation Initiative will become the exclusive property of the University of Chicago, and the University has sole discretion in approving and implementing the materials and curricula developed under the Initiative.
